Description :

An interesting DIY for your kids during summer holidays. A DIY that’s technique driven, teaching how to mould and shape clay with hands and clay tools. Make this watermelon planter and create your own décor pieces for your home.

STEP 1 : Prepare the dough and base

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to make a soft even dough.

STEP 2 : Slab technique with clay

Roll the dough to make a medium thick slab using a rolling pin.

STEP 3 : Cut and shape the clay to make the watermelon shape

Cut a triangular shape for the base measuring 5"x 5”x 5 in size, and three rectangles that would form the borders of the planter. Use clay carving tools and a paper cutter for ease while cutting.

STEP 4 : Assemble the basic structure

Assemble & stick the cut shapes using a bit of clay & Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Let it dry.

STEP 5 : Shape the clay

Shape some clay to make the watermelon seeds, in a unform size and shape.

STEP 6 : Paint the base coat

Paint the planter with a base coat of Fevicryl Acrylic Colour – White 27. Let it dry.

STEP 7 : Start painting the planter

Paint the sides of the planter using Fevicryl Acrylic Colour - Light Green 12 and Fevicryl water-based Glass Colour – Crystal Green.

STEP 8

Further paint to make it look like a watermelon piece using Acrylic Colour - Crimson 04 and Glass Colour – Tomato Red, as seen in the image.

STEP 9 : Finishing touches

Paint the watermelon seeds using Fevicryl Acrylic Colour – Black 02 and Dark Brown 05. Stick the seeds in a natural formation on the sides of the planter with Fabric Glue, completing it’s final look.
