Bastar art prevalent and predominant in Chhatisgarh, India is a work of art that requires skill and craftsmanship. Taking inspiration from this comes our DIY that has Bastar art created using Fevicryl Mouldit and painted in rich metallic shades.   

STEP 1 : Source the base material

We are going to make the tribal figures using the PVC pipe of 1” diameter. Take 6” to 7” PVC pipe pieces to make 3 tribal figures with Mouldit.

STEP 2 : Preparing the dough

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to make an even soft dough.  

STEP 3 : Making the faces

Take some clay and shape it into an oval shape suitable to make a face of the women on the pipe base (pipe will be the torso of the women). Take some clay and shape them into tiny round balls, teardrop and coiled shapes.

Start sticking them to create the facial details eyes, nose, lips and chin, hands, legs emphasis with ornaments using Fabric Glue. Give texture wherever needed using clay carving tools. Take some clay to make the winnowing basket, the miller, and morter- pester using clay carving tools. Refer to the image for the finer nuances. Let it dry.

STEP 4 : Painting the figures

Paint the women figures first with a base coat of Fevicryl Acrylic Colour - Black 02. Leave them to dry. Paint the second coat with Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352, giving them a metal look .
