A Dokra art inspired mirror is what this DIY is. Created beautifully and delicately with Fevicryl Mouldit and painted exotically with Pearl Metallic shades, it has made it a piece of art worthy of praise. Learn various clay shaping techniques with this DIY and adapt it to numerous other projects.
Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to form an even soft dough.
Roll the dough to make a medium thick slab. Make beads (15-20) and pierce holes in each of them. Shape, flat coin / button like forms with holes on the top of each one. Make long thin rope like shapes, the mirror will be decorated in an ornate pattern using the coiling technique.
Take a corrugated sheet and cut a 6” diameter, with a circle cut within too, just like you see in the image. This is for the mirror to be fixed later.
Take the clay slab and very neatly cover the circle using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
Start creating an ornate pattern on the mirror with clay, in the coiling technique. Stick with Fevicryl Fabric Glue as you go along, and use clay tools for ease. Ensure the evenness of the coils for a good finish. Let it dry.
Start painting the pattern using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours - Black 02, Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352 & Bronze 355, giving an antiquated burnished look, typically the way it appears in Dokra art style
Paint the clay buttons & the beads in the same shade as you did for the pattern, let them dry.
Take 2 embroidery rings – 8" & 10” in diameter. Paint them using Fevicryl Acrylic Colour – Black 02. String in the beads in the smaller ring. Slip in the button shapes with jute thread tassels in alternation.
Create a loop with the rings and the mirror and pass a stick through it.
Finally, fix a round mirror from the rear side of the circle using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. The ornate and regal antiquated mirror inspired by Dokra art is now ready.
