Get creative with waste materials and transform them into a stylish sling bag using weaving techniques and vibrant colors. This project combines functionality with eco-friendliness, making it both practical and sustainable.
STEP 1 : Procure the Base and Weave the Basket
- Craft a sling bag using weaving techniques with newspapers.
- Roll the newspapers to create rounded sticks and weave them into round-shaped baskets, resembling fruit baskets.
- Make two such baskets for the sling bag.
STEP 2 : Paint the Base Coat
- Paint the baskets with a base coat of Fevicol MR to add sturdiness.
- Once dry, apply a wash of Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Burnt Sienna 01 and Sap Green 21.
- Allow the paint to dry completely.
STEP 3 : Prepare the Base for the Design
- Take MDF coasters measuring 4” x 4” and draw a tile pattern design on them using yellow carbon paper.
STEP 4 : Paint the Design on MDF
- Paint the tile pattern design on the MDF coasters using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Crimson 04, and Sap Green 21. Let the paint dry.
- Make two coasters for the front and back sides of the sling bag.
STEP 5 : Make the Inner for Joining the Sling
- Choose fabric for the inner lining of the sling bag.
- Cut two circles and a broad band from the fabric.
- Attach the band to the circle, leaving one side open, using Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
STEP 6 : Final Attachments
- Attach the fabric inner to one of the baskets and then to the other basket using Fabric Glue.
- Attach the MDF coasters and rexine pieces to the front and back sides of the woven sling bag.
- Use a leather waist belt to create the strap and closure for the bag. Secure the belt using a cobbler or a large needle and thread.
STEP 7 : Final Look
- Admire your finished sling bag, showcasing your creativity and eco-consciousness in a stylish accessory!
