Traditional Maharashtrian Necklace

You Will Need:

Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Black 02, Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Pearl Metallic Gold 352, Fevicryl Mouldit, Fevicryl Fabric Glue, Fine Art Brushes, A4 Paper Canvas, Pencil, Scissors, Clay Carving Tools, Colour Palette, Water Container, Jewellery Attachments (Beaded Cord with tassel)

How cool it will be to make our own traditional jewelry especially now when the price of gold is sky rocketing! Here we have done just that, made a gorgeous thusi from Fevicrly Mouldit. Learn how to make one for yourself too.


STEP 1 : Mixing Mouldit for the design
• We are going to make the Traditional Maharashtrian jewellery called Thusi on Gudi Padwa using Mouldit and Paper canvas. • Take a piece paper canvas. • Draw the basic design on it. Cut it in shape. • Take Mouldit resin base and hardener, mix it thoroughly to make even dough.
STEP 2 : Roll the dough
• Take the dough, roll it to make a medium thin slab with rolling pin.
STEP 3 : Cut the shape
• Mark and cut a zig- zag shape out of it. • Refer to the image.
STEP 4 : Stick the shapes on base.
• Place and stick the shapes evenly using Fabric Glue on the base. • Let it dry completely.
STEP 5 : Base is ready
• Your neck piece will look like this on this stage.
STEP 6 : Painting the necklace
• Paint the Thusi Necklace with Antique Gold effect using Acrylic Colours Black 02 and Pearl Metallic Gold 352. • Let it dry completely.
STEP 7 : Finishing of the necklace
• Take some clay to make the round shape beads. • Let it dry completely. • Paint the clay beads with similar antique gold look using Acrylic Colours Black 02 and Pearl Metallic Gold 352. Let it dry. • Take the ball chain, red, green ornamental stones and clay beads. • Stick the stones in the centre of the necklace and bordered the necklace with ball chain and clay beads using Fabric Glue. Let it dry. • Refer to the image.
STEP 8 : Assembly
• Attach the jewelry attachment, readymade beaded cord with tassel aesthetically towards the end. • Your Thusi necklace will look like this.
