Terracotta Diya

You Will Need:

Fevicryl Acrylic Color (White 27 and Indian red 10), Fevicryl Mouldit, Clay Modelling Tools, Mountboard Sheet, Paper, White Pen, Fine Art Brushes, Colour Palette, Water Container.

This traditional terracotta diya, handcrafted from clay, is a beautiful and functional piece. It adds warmth and a touch of tradition to any space, perfect for illuminating festive occasions or creating a serene ambiance in your home.

STEP 1 : Procure the Base
  • Take Mouldit resin base and hardener, mix well and make small dough.
  • Mix Fevicryl Acrylic Indian Red Colour to obtain the Teracotta shade.
  • With the help of clay modelling tools, roll it on a slab and with the help of a small bowl take the mould out.
  • Refer to the image.
STEP 2 : Cut the shape
  • Cut off 1/4th of the diya or bowl.
  • Draw the shape on the mountboard and cut it in curves.
  • Apply clay all around it and stick it on the bowl’s half cut portion.
  • Paint it using Fevicryl Acrylic Indian Red Colour.
  • Let it dry.
  • Refer to the image.
STEP 3 : Trace and paint the design
  • Trace the intricate floral design on the diya with a white pen.
  • Fill in the design with Fevicryl Acrylic White Colour.
  • Let it dry.
