Unleash your creativity with this Talavera-inspired tile tray project. Using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours and Mouldit, transform a simple wooden tray into a stunning piece of art reminiscent of traditional Mexican pottery.

STEP 1 : Prepare the Wooden Tray
  • Take the wooden tray and paint it with a base coat of Acrylic Colour Black 02. Allow it to dry.
STEP 2 : Prepare the dough
  • Take equal parts of Mouldit resin base and hardener, and thoroughly mix them until you achieve a smooth, uniform consistency.
  • Roll out the dough to create a slab using a rolling pin.
  • Cut the slab to measure 5” x 5”.
  • Use clay carving/modelling tools to engrave a design inspired by Talavera tiles onto the slab. Let it dry.
STEP 3 : Paint the design
  •  Apply a light, watery wash of Acrylic Colour Black 02 to the slab. Wipe the excess wash off with a rough rag.
  • Paint the design using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Black 02, Crimson 04, Golden Yellow 09, Light Green 12, Orange 17, White 27, and Cerulean Blue 32.
  • Allow it to dry.
STEP 4 : Finishing touches
  • Your fantastic clay coaster with the painted design is ready to be used!
STEP 5 : Paint the walls of tray
  • Trace a similar design from the tile onto the walls of the tray using white carbon paper.
  • Paint the design using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Black 02, Crimson 04, Golden Yellow 09, Light Green 12, Orange 17, White 27, and Cerulean Blue 32.
STEP 6 : Final look
