You Will Need:

Fevicryl Colours Golden Yellow 09, Maroon 14, Orange 17, White 27, Cerulean Blue 32, Deep Brilliant Purple 64, Fevicryl Fabric Glue, Fine Art Brushes, Half A Meter Green and Red Coloured cotton Cloth (Pick Any Colour of Your Choice), Pink and Blue Fabric Piece, A3 White Paper, White Carbon Paper, Scissors, Wooden Hoop, Pencil, Water Container, Colour Palette.

These captivating table mats feature vibrant Patola patterns, a renowned Gujarati textile art form. Inspired by the joyous spirit of Makar Sankranti, the Indian kite-flying festival, they are uniquely shaped like kites. These hand-painted pieces add a touch of festive cheer and artistic flair to any dining table, making mealtimes a more delightful experience. 

STEP 1 : Procure the Base
  • Today, we will craft Kite Shaped Centre Table Mats to make the ordinary plain table look decorative and classy. 

  • Patola art is generally worn on auspicious or important ocassions. Made with precison, it involves great skill to make clear and crisp designs. 

  • Let’s start with taking a Green Coloured Silk Cloth. 

 

STEP 2 : Draw the design
  • Draw one big square frame in the centre of the cloth. Divide the square in four equal halves. 

  • Draw the patola design in all four segments. 

  • Trace the design precisely and make sure you leave enough space in between the design to make it look neat. 

  • Refer to the image. 

STEP 3 : Paint the Design
  • Clutch the wooden hoop outside the design. 

  • Start by painting the border of the design using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours White, Golden Yellow, Deep Brilliant Purple, and Maroon. 

  • Let it dry. 

  • Refer to the image. 

STEP 4 : Finishing Touches
  • Paint all the Bhats precisely with Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Deep Brilliant Purple, White, Golden Yellow, and White. 

  • Paint the colour thick so it doesn't spread outside the borders. 

  • Let it dry. 

  • Take fine art Canvas Sheet, mark and cut the sheet in the size of the kite  

  • You can cut the borders in a square shape and paint the borders with Fevicryl Acrylic White Colour. 

STEP 5 : Finishing Touches
  • Cut a small piece of different cloth to make the tail of the Kite in triangular shape and attach it with the Fevicryl Fabric Glue.  

  • Refer to the image. 

  • Here are your beautiful patola painted Kite Shaped Centre Table Mats ready to be laid across your table on Makar Sankranti. 

STEP 6 : Final Look

Your kite shaped table mat is ready to use you can keep it on the center table or on the dining table.
