Jharoka Frame With Phad Painting
You Will Need:

Phad are scroll paintings from Rajasthan. Most of the paintings use only primary and secondary colours to make vibrant and rich paintings, resonating with the dynamic culture of the state of Rajasthan.
STEP 1 : Source the base material
- Take flat wooden sticks and make a frame with nine compartments / sections using them.
- We are going to make a jharoka frame on a canvas base using a wooden frame and Fevicryl Mouldit, to create a carved design on the frame.
STEP 2
- Take A3 white paper. Draw nine different designs from Phad painting art.
- Take 16” x 20” canvas board.
- Paint the board with an off-white shade using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours - Chrome Yellow 03 and White 27. Let it dry.
- Trace the same design on the canvas using yellow carbon paper, in such a way that each of the Phad painting will come in the centre of each of the compartments.
- Outline of the design with Fevciryl Acrylic Colour - Black 02. Let it dry.
STEP 3 : Make the design
- We are going to create a carved effect on the frame with Fevicryl Mouldit.
- Take Mouldit - resin base and hardener, mix it thoroughly to form an even dough.
- Roll it to make a thick coil to make the design on the frame.
- Stick the coils on the frame along with few petals of clay to make a floral design using Fevicryl Fabric Glue for sticking and clay carving tools to create the patterns.
STEP 4 : Paint the design
- Paint the frame with a base coat with Fevicryl Acrylic Colour - White 27.
- Let it dry.
STEP 5 : Paint the design
- Paint the Phad design using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours - Burnt Sienna, Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Crimson 04, Dark Green 06, Cerulean Blue 32 and Leaf Green 62.
- Let it dry.
STEP 6
- Paint the wooden frame with using Acrylic Colours - Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Pearl Metallic - Gold 352 and Bronze 355
- Leave it to dry completely.
- Your Phad inspired jharoka frame will look like this.
