Description :

Dokra art is an enriched form of art, that has inspired generations till today. Artefacts made in the Dokra art style have been appreciated and revered to a large extent. The DIY here has been inspired by this very rich art style. Made with basics and Fevicryl Mouldit, making it an interesting project to do.

STEP 1 : Source the base material

Take a plastic container with a flat dome on the surface. The Dokra form would be developed on this base.

STEP 2 : Preparing the dough

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to form an even soft dough.

STEP 3 : Shaping the ornate Dokra elephant

Take the dough and start developing the elephant; head and trunk of the elephant. Create an ornate pattern towards the base of the container.

STEP 4 : Creating intricate & ornate patterns

Make coils out of the clay by rolling it, and create an intricate and ornate pattern around the container, covering it completely. Repeat the ornate style on the head, ears and trunk of the elephant, stick using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Use clay carving tools for ease. Let it dry.

STEP 5 : Painting the Dokra elephant

The Dokra elephant with clay is now ready to be painted. Use Fevicryl Acrylic Colour – Black 02, as the first coat. Let it dry.

STEP 6 : Final touches & look

Use Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352 & Bronze 355 over the black shade to give a metallic tarnished look, typical of Dokra art style. A lovely artefact that can now have a new place in your homes.
