Smiley Rakhi

You Will Need:

Fevicryl Fabric Glue, Buckram, Casement Fabric, Woolen Yarns in Various Colours, Paper Scissors, Fabric Scissors, Pencil, Compass, Comb, Rough Waste Cloth

Quick, easy, colourful and fun smiley rakhi made completely using Fevicryl Fabric Glue that can be sent to your loving brother who is away from home or to be tied in person with lots of sweets and gifts.

STEP 1 : Drawing
  • Draw two circles on buckram using pencil and compass.
  • The inner circle measuring 0.75 inch diameter and the outer measuring 1.25 inch diameter.
  • Draw petals between the inner and the outer circle as shown in the image above.
STEP 2 : Cut the flower shape

Cut the flower using paper scissors.

STEP 3 : Sticking
  • Stick the buckram flower on to casement fabric as shown in the image

  • Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick the piece.

  • Let it dry.

STEP 4 : Cut the casement fabric

Cut the casement fabric piece in the shape of the flower and highlight the lines for reference

STEP 5 : Outlining
  • Take blue woolen yarn and outline the flower as shown in the image.
  • Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
  • Let it all dry
STEP 6

The flower must look like this once it has been outlined completely.  

STEP 7 : Making of pom-pom
  • Take various shades and tints of yellow and orange woolen yarns.
STEP 8

Cut them into various pieces of the same size and bring them together

STEP 9
  • Wrap the yarns around a scale or fingers to bunch them as seen in the image.
  • Tie them up so that the folds stay in place
STEP 10
  • Cut the edges of the loops to create a wild looking pom-pom
  • This is how it will once u cut it.  
STEP 11

Trim the pom-pom to a size that will fit into the middle circle of the flower.  

STEP 12
  • Using black wool, create eyes, mouth and tongue imitating a winking smiley
  • Stick it using fevicryl Fabric Glue.
  • Let it all dry
STEP 13

Take different colours of woolen yarn (pink, orange, green) and cut them into small pieces as seen in the image.

STEP 14 : Filling of petals
  • Fill the petals of the flower with orange and pink cut woolen yarn.
  • Create highlights for the petal using green woolen yarn.
  • Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
  • Let it all dry
STEP 15
  • Stick the smiley pom-pom in the middle circle as shown.
  • Stick it using fevicryl Fabric glue.
  • Let it all dry
STEP 16
  • Take two different shades of green woolen yarn and braid them together as seen in the image.
  • Knot them up on both sides and brush the edges using a comb to make the ends frizzy.
STEP 17
  • Stick the smiley pom-pom flower on the braided band as shown in the image.
  • Stick it using fevicryl Fabric glue.
  • Let it all dry
