This is an awesome way to go eco-friendly! Use old notebooks to create a beautiful basket, that could be used to carry flowers, chocolates or little gifts, this Valentines!
How To Do it Yourself
Step 1: Make Paper Tubes: Tear out the pages from the notebook. Best idea is to use a sharp blade to cut the pages out, so as to avoid the jagged edges. Take a sheet, and fold it half length-wise. Cut along the fold. Now, you have two pieces. Again, fold these length-wise and cut. Totally, you should have around 4 thin strips of paper. Take a thin rod. Then place it at one corner of a paper strip. Then roll the paper around the stick, making sure to keep it tight. Once you have finished rolling it, put a drop of glue on the last corner to hold the roll together. You will need many, at least 50 sticks.
Step 2: Don't throw the thick cover of the book. This can also be used! Cut it into circles. You will need two. This will form the base of the basket. For big baskets, you will need atleast 10-12 cm diameter
Step 3: Arrange the paper tubes over one of the cardboard circles. Glue the paper tubes to the cardboard so that they radiate away from the center, so that it seems like the rays of the sun. Pretty much looks like the sun, at this point! Use an odd number of tubes for this. Then, glue the other piece over this. Keep it aside for a few hours, till completely dry.
Step 4: Start weaving. Take one on the paper rolls. Fold it in half. Then weave the tube in and out of the rays, over one and under the next. Insert new tubes within the hollows of the tubes you are working on, when it starts to get short.
Step 5: Keep weaving till you get the desired height. To keep the shape proper, put a bowl within the basket as you work on it.
Step 6: For Handles. Take three paper tubes and plait them. Then attach them to the sides with glue.
Step 7: Paint the basket using acrylic colors and decorate using the outliner. Put a coat of varnish, so that the basket has a glossy finish.
